50 FALLRETURNING TO THE GREATEDGEWOOD HIGH SCHOOLGraduating from Edgewood and then returning to teach here is what a few have doneat Edgewood High School. Mrs. Waterford, Mr. Ennis, and Mrs. Junken have all beenin this position and have seen Edgewood through all its changes. Even through all theconstruction, this school is still the school they know and love from when they werestudents here. What was your favorite high school memory at Edgewood? The biggest part of the class of 77 spent 13 of our first 18 years together:from Ms. Sheldons kindergarten class through Mr. Wades Government andEconomics class. Ellettsville was just a wide spot along State Road 46 and had justone flasher light at the intersection of Temperance St. and Sales St. (what is now theintersection by the Library). There wasnt a lot of growth in Ellettsville during the 60sand 70s. Most of our families lived in the same house throughout our school years. The biggest change was that Ellettsville consolidated with Stinesville, our biggestrival, to form the Richland-Bean Blossom Community School Corp. during ourkindergarten year. During my school days at Edgewood, the seniors graduated beforeMr. Ennis, Math the end of the school year. We took our final exams a week ahead of theunderclassmen and graduated on Friday night. We didnt have a Senior trip back in the 70s so one of myclassmates planned a farewell party of sorts for the Thursday afternoon when we finished our final exams. My classmates father was the manager of the Holiday Inn and he allowed his son to invite a few of his bestfriends from the Senior class to use the pool area as a send-off party. We were to graduate the nextevening, and knew that some of our classmates would soon be heading for greener pastures far fromEllettsville. The majority of our Senior class, his best friends, spent our last afternoon together asschoolmates visiting and sharing stories of our school memories and plans for life after Edgewood. Myclassmates are now scattered from East Coast to West Coast, and I have but a few close friendships thathave survived the 36 years since high school. My best memories are the classmates that shared the commonexperiences of growing up in Ellettsville. There are still several classmates that have chosen to raise theirfamilies in Ellettsville, and they always ask how things are going at The Wood.1Student directing thespring play my senioryear!Mrs. Junken,EnglishCheering atsectionals that we wonand placing first forMusic Warehouse inthe same week!Mrs. Waterford,English |
