Directed by VerdaSavage and her assistants, SallyMurphy and Michelle Bales,the play not only highlightedthe new auditorium, but provided much need school spiritUrsula impatiently waits at the courthouse for Conrad to appear.the students had been lacking.The cast included anyonewho wanted to take part anddevote their extra time. It wasa lot of hard work, but was wellworth it in the end. We practiced almost every weeknight,especially the week before theshow when we were there every night for as long as four orfive hours, stated Valerie Osborne 87, who played KimMacAfee, the lucky girl chosenfor Conrads last kiss on national television before Conrads departure into the army.Senior Craig Baker whoplayed Hugo Peabody, Kimsboyfriend, practiced manyhours to perfect his jealous image and love-stricken attitudetoward Kim. As called for in thescript, Hugo ends the play witha punch at Conrad much to thesurprise of the audience. During the closing performanceSaturday night, Conrad tookhis curtain call with a black eyewhich was never rehearsed; asurprise not only to the audience but to Mrs. Savage andthe other cast members as well.83
