The society had beenoperating on an unwritten, outdated set of rules and decidedit was time to do somethingabout it.Most changes fell under thecategory of selection of members. Students wishing to beinitiated as juniors no longerneeded a 3.5 grade point average in the spring. A new provision reguired them to haveonly a 3.3. grade point averagejust like those people who wereinitiated at the start of their senior year.The previous academic re-guirement was viewed as discriminatory.Another breakthrough camewhen potential initiates nolonger needed to hold an officeto prove their leadership ability. I feel that holding andelected office is more a matterof popularity rather than trueleadership ability, stated senior Andrea Cooper.Even though NHS was busyrevising their constitution,members still had plenty oftime for service. Their serviceprojects included their annualpowderpuff football game, collecting food for HelenesHouse, and caroling for the elderly at Christmas time.President Kwin Abram briefs rinitiates on the oath they are abouttake when sworn in on stage.80National Honor Society
