TheNorth Central Association includes 19states in the North Central region of theUnited States. It is an optional organization aimed at providing educationalstandards for schools to follow. The association claims that by allowing localpeople to have major control of theirschools, American school systems havebecome widely diversified. Though thisis not all bad, the NCA feels that schoolsneed some standard guidelines.Principal Charles Townsend mentioned that he has been involved in aNorth Central accredited school andfeels that Edgewoods involvement inthe NCA will help assure a gualityeducational program. Being an NCAmember certifies that a school has thepotential to offer a high guality education by showing its administrative abilityand willingness to upgrade its system. It (North Central Accredidation) assures our community that all teachersare properly gualified to teach in theirarea of teaching assignment. [And that]. . . we meet all gualifications for all students to gualify for college acceptance, explained Mr. Townsend.School evaluation for joining theNCA occurs in three basic phases. Thefirst phase is called Self-Study. Members of the school evaluate the schoolspresent effectiveness. The secondphase calls for an outside evaluationteam to make suggestions for improvement. These suggestions are actedupon in the third phase in which theschool actually implements the changesthey have discussed. Edgewood applied for acceptance into the NCA inJanuary, 1986. From October, 1986 toApril, 1987, school members havebeen working through phase one. Thevisiting team is scheduled to observefrom March 28-31, 1988. The thirdphase should take place during the1988-89 school year. Mr. Townsendmentioned that one of the majorchanges phase one brought about wasthe refurbishing of the library. Ms. Mea-dors has been very intent on keeping itsupplied with updated educational materials.Membership in the NCA is on a yearly basis. Once a member, Edgewoodmust submit reports on its progress towards the guidelines established by theNCA each year to determine whetheror not membership should be renewed.Mr. Townsend stated our long termbenefits from NCA, We continue toevaluate and improve our school curriculum and assure students of offeringa guality educational progamMrs. Robinson and Miss Baynes review thecriteria for North Central Accredidation.%<%\<^SS&&ZSA*In 10How many kids will you have?Karen Cooprider (12)—NoneRhonda Terrell (12)—2Melissa Macek (12)—NoneDiana Patton (12)—2Mirohim Saft (11)—1What kind of car will youdrive?Amy Bohall (11)—turquoise Karman GhiaMike Dennison(12) yellow MG convertibleJulie Ellis (11)—convertible VWScott Cover (11)—hearseAmy Bishop (9)—MercedesWhere will you live?Carol Loy (10)—ChicagoAndrea Compton (10)—IndianaTara Nice (12)—AustraliaCindy Rambo (11)—North or South CarolinaDebbie Heiner (11)—TexasWhat type o£ job will youhave?Kwin Abram (12)—engineerStefany Winkler (10)—beautician for moviecompanyJulie Ellis (11)—dentistJoe Butcher (11)—air force pilotDebbie Heiner (11)—own a photographyshopWhat pets will you have?Michele Wistl (12)—fish, dogBrad Krebbs (12)—wild boarKristi Figg (10)—Siberian HuskyClint Heyworth (9)—3 dogs, 2 parrotsAmy Bohall (11)—Saimese catHow tall will you be?Clint Heyworth (9)—62Matt Jeffers (12)—64Matt Smith (11 )—65 |
