Description: ■MimttiNMfSETTING NEW RECORDSIN THE SPIRIT OF THE GAMESEdgewood, Edgewood! chanted thefans, as the mighty Marching Mustangsneared the starting line of the State FairBand Day competition. The pride, the determination, and the desire to achieve a goalradiated from the faces of 126 students whodedicated their summer to hours of practicethat prepared them for this special day. Noteven a steady downpour of rain dampenedthe spirits of this band as they proceededacross the track to perform an award-winning show, which followed the Pan AmGames theme.Later that evening, the tension continuedto build. As the sixth placing was announced, nobody could breathe. Would thegoal be achieved? Would Edgewood place inthe top five? YES! Edgewood not onlyplaced in the top five of thirty-one bands,they placed THIRD, setting a new record,accomplishing what no other Edgewoodband had done before. The joy in the air wasincredible, as the exuberant marchers headed back to the buses to load up equipmentand go home.We did it, Amy! yelled Stacy Ellis, asdrum majors Amy Bohall and Kelly Taylorreturned to the buses proudly carrying thetrophy. The band flocked around in excitedtriumph.All of this success did not come easily tothe band. Hours of practice in the heat andhumidity, and concentrated work in the finalweek at band camp was part of the program. This years camp was not all work. Itfeatured a 50s dance, a baseball tournament, and a talent and awards show.So, Edgewood, hats off to your MIGHTYMARCHING MUSTANGS!!
