44Here we stand todayValerie Rihm is a very determinedperson. She was born eighteen years agoand has worked over half of this time inan I.G.A. store off of Highway 46.It all began ten years ago, Valeriesays, when her father needed some helpin the produce section of the then RihmsI.G.A. She would prepare the produceand then price it for its short life on theshelf. She was ten before she moved upto the stock the shelves job she heldafter produce. If anyone has ever stocked shelves, heknows what sheer fun really is. To stock one has to continually put products onshelves, while rotating the product. This means a lot of time is spent putting thingsbehind one another, instead of just putting them right in front. This is a very tediousand monotonous job. But that is not all stocking is; its also renewing old price tagsand small things like that. Val says she spent two full years doing this. Her father began to see that she would be a lot of help in the office around the timeshe turned twelve. She then helped inventory, type, count money, and make lists ofsales for three years. During this time she was ending junior high and starting highschool. She was always the athletic type and during her work schedule managed to keep inshape. It seems like shes played softball and basketball all of her life. She startedplaying organized sports in jr. high on the track, volleyball, and basketball teams.Since then, she has compiled seven varsity letters in these sports; of course that is notmentioning her softball and tennis achievements during this time. She has playedeach of these about several years and has gone to several tournaments in both fields. Her softball team went to state last year. Yes, Valerie is very athletic.Putting sports aside, at the beginning of her sophmore year, Val took another stepup the grocery ladder to cashier. She has been one ever since. The only time in thelast ten years that she has not beem employed at I.G.A. was when her family movedto Georgia in February of 1981. She moved back five months later and resumed herposition behind the cash register. As stated before, she is very determined and works hard to achieve her goals. Eventhough she works a part-time job and has been very active in athletics, she hasmanaged to maintain a 3.6 gpa through high school. Valerie plans to continue hereducation after graduation, and she also plans to continue playing and working.Senior Class Officers:Debbie Mezger, Secretary-TreasurerAngie Thompson, Vice-PresidentKathy Headdy, President105 |
