Vocational School—First Hand TrainingSince 1973 Vocational School hasbeen a successful counterpart ofEdgewood High School. Each yearsome juniors and seniors who wish tolearn a trade while they are still inhigh school attend Vocational School.There they are taught job skills whichare equal to one year of technicaltraining.The Vocational Program involvestaking a course at either North orSouth for one or two years. Studentsattend three classes here atEdgewood in the morning, thenboard a bus, or drive, to aBloomington High School where theyattend one class for three hoursbefore returning to EHS. Aftergraduation these students should beable to obtain a job in their field oftraining.A few of the courses offered are:Drafting, Electronics, Cosmetology,and Business Lab.Mary Sexton and Denise Porter learn aboutChild Care while leading young children inlively songs.Ed Lipscomb and Tom Sater practice workingwith metal on the way to becoming competentwelders.Ross Roberts and Mike Cassady work on anautomobile engine during an afternoon inAuto Mechanics class.During Building Trades Mike Hobbs and Bruce Johnston construct a house.59 |
