going tO Print The Optimist workstirelessly to print the school paper,Running a newspaper takes alot of work. You need writers, editors, and photographersjust to create the content, butits the blood, sweat, andtears that the staff membersput into their work that makesa publication stellar. Since itwas founded in 1911,Bloomington Souths TheOptimist has done just that. The Optimist itself is splitinto five main categories:News, Features, Sports,Opinion and Culture. However, the writers dontwrite for just one section, as atraditional newspaperjournalist would. They writeabout what they areinterested in, no matter whatcategory it falls under.I like to write aboutevents that are happening, like with clubs or things thataffect students in general, junior Madison Roberts said.Spanning over threeweeks, the biggest project ofeach trimester is creating thephysical newspaper. First, thewriters are given one week towrite their articles. Then, overthe course of two weeks, theeditors check stories and putthem in the paper withcorresponding pictures. Last, the finished newspaper is sentto The Herald-Times to beprinted. Some may wonder whyThe Optimist doesnt producemore newspapers. It takes alot of time and effort, and ourwebsite is getting a lot ofviews, so we decided to focusmore on the website and onlyprint one newspaper per tri, said senior and editorElizabeth Rickerr. The Optimist isnt just aschool newspaper.
