You can catch me there all the time, she said.a helping handHoosiers provide aidHurricane Harvey.In late August, HurricaneHarvey, one of the strongesthurricanes to make landfall inthe U.S. in the past decade,struck Texas. This led tonumerous towns, particularlythe city of Houston, beingdevastated by heavy rainfalland subsequent flooding.Thousands of homes weredestroyed, which resulted inthousands of Texans to havinglittle to no access to essentialslike food, water, and hygienicproducts. In response to thedisaster, many Hoosiers ralliedtogether to help provide relieffor those affected.Senior Alayna Sylvesterand her family decided tohelp by gathering supplies forvictims of the flooding. Thefamily, along with othermembers of the community,filled several semi-trucks andtrailers with necessary suppliessuch as diapers, first-aid kits,medicine, water, toiletriesto displaced victims ofand other essentials for Harveyvictims. Sylvester decided toparticipate because she hadfamily in Houston. She saidthat her relatives were luckynot to lose anything besidespower, but it inspired her andher family to help those in thearea who had not been aslucky. Sylvester was amazedat how quickly peopleresponded to her familys callto action. People camethrough and brought in morethan we could imagine, shesaid.Out of the devastatinghurricane came hugeamounts of support andgenerosity.
