Our pig had a very largeheart and kidney, so it was neat tolook at, Taylor said. The pigsgiven to the lab had someanomalies that made theexperiments interesting forstudents. My group was the onlyone with a female pig, seniorAmy Moore said. It was similar toa miniature human body but adifferent layout. My favorite partwas the lung test. We discoveredthat a piece of the lung we cutwould not float in water likeeveryone thought.It gave me a goodidea of where differentparts were and madeit easier to see thesize, shape and howthey function.- senior Elaine HuntThe aspect of firsthandlearning for these students wasextremely beneficial to them. Ithelped to see the things we hadlearned about rather than justlooking at diagrams and models,Reynolds said. Being able toapply what they already knewmade senior Elaine Huntconnect with the knowledge shehad gained. It gave me a goodidea of where different parts wereand made it easier to see thesize, shape, and how theyfunction, Hunt said. Thesestudents believed that being ableto see and touch what they wereworking with helped them.
