Description: WELCOME TONEW YORKDuring fall break, junior Madeleine Clemmer flewto New York City to watch a Saturday Night Liveshow. SNL, which has been on air for 41 years, isformatted such that an A-list guest host participatesin sketches with the ensemble players, a group thathas included stars such as Will Ferrell, JimmyFallon, etc. The show goes live at midnight everySaturday.Clemmer attended the October 8, 2016 showthat was hosted by Broadways Lin-ManuelMiranda. While watching, Clemmer felt like shewas part of the show, and enjoyed listening to themusical guests, 21 Pilots. It was pretty cool, shesaid. Additionally, she was able to watch therehearsals and visit the actors dressing rooms.Not only did she get to watch SNL live fromthe studio, but Clemmer also watched The LionKing on Broadway, where she was once againSaturday Night Live is full of exciting andmesmerizing skits, short improvised plays, and funmusical performances. Junior Madeleine Clemmerhad the opportunity to see it in person.allowed to tour the dressing rooms and go aroundthe set. The show was awesome, she said, andmany others agree. The Lion King is one of the mostpopular shows on Broadway, having run for over14 years won several awards.Clemmer was granted these unusualopportunities because her godmother is aprofessional percussionist who was chosen to playdrums on set with the band on SNL and with theorchestra on The Lion King. Clemmers godmotherpulled strings at both her jobs to allow hergoddaughter to watch both shows.Although the shows were the main focus ofClemmers trip to New York City, she also tookadvantage of the location to do sightseeing andlearn more about the notorious city. She touredNew York University and walked around TimesSquare, making her fall break one to remember.- MADELINE BOMBATHE FUTURE IS BRIGHTThe Indiana 4-H Youth Congress had a conferencethis fall to discuss some of Indianas collegescholarships and ways to get more involvedacademically. Sophomores Jenna Deckard and TaylorHayes attended and were able to learn more about alot of things that [they] didnt even know wereopportunities that [they] could get involved in,according to Deckard. They also learned how to getready for interviews for [...] scholarships andupcoming jobs, said Hayes.
