Description: dThe baseball players were ready to make their mark onthe season and win as much as they could.Swinging for the fences may just be asaying, but for the Bloomington Southvarsity baseball team, it was a way oflife. The players of the 2014 seasonmade sure through every practice andevery game to play their best, reachingas far into the postseason as possible. The South team did well both onand off the field this year. By keepingthe goal of success in mind, the playerswere able to push themselves to theirfull potential during each practice. Ofsignificant benefit was the strongchemistry that held this years teamtogether. The seniors have playedtogether since Little League, so wevehad experience playing together, saidsenior Clay Riggins, and the juniorsstepped up and were great teammatesas well. With years of experiencetogether, learning each of theirstrengths and weaknesses, the wholeteam benefited by coming out on top.seniors, thejunior varsity baseball players havepushed themselves and put in all oftheir effort during each practice toexceptional results. As with most teams,Souths many victories wereinterspersed with a few losses, but theplayers took the opportunity to learnfrom both situations to better preparethe team for success in the comingyear.Despite hours of batting, catchingand throwing, the baseball seasonwas not all work and no play; the teamtook time during the season to buildrelationships between players thatcontributed greatly to their strength onand off the field. [The team dinners]made things more fun on and off thefield, junior John Lukens said. Themore comfortable teammates grewwith each other, the more easilycooperation came. And as effective asthose team dinners were for the teamand their success, the taste of winningwas much more sweet.- BAILEY UNDERWOODFENCESwe want a pitcher,rThere are manychants andexpressions thatbaseball playersutilize todistract theopposition.Right, some ofSouths bestspill their tradesecrets.junior Cole McNeelyMy favorite is when wemove our hands and actlike they are a bow andarrow to distract.
