Every Saturday andTuesday during the warmer seasons, vendors from all around the countygathered at the Bloomington FarmersMarket to sell their wares to food-conscious Bloomingtonians. The market was a hallmark ofBloomingtons local food culture. Italso provided entertainment forBloomington South students like seniorGrace Buchan, who attended themarket nearly every week in order tosoak up the atmosphere, as shecalled it. Ive been going ever since Iwas a child, Buchan said, recallingthe times when she used to play in thenearby fountain. I have memories ofthat.Though her weekly purchaseswere usually restricted to honey sticksor colorful bouquets, Buchanemphasized the importance ofsupporting local agriculture. [Themarket] is super important toBloomingtons local farmers...andagriculture, she said, citing the lack ofpesticides as a benefit of purchasinglocal organic products. However, the market was not theonly local source of food. Localrestaurants dotted every streetdowntown, including the famed FourthStreet Restaurant Row.
