Bloomington High School South, The Gothic, 2014, Page 99

Description: HITTING AT FULL FORCE. When it came to Holi, no one was holding back - senior Sarah Bruner included. Eager to add her own colorsto the celebration, Bruner ripped open a package of pink powder and doused everyone she encountered. This pink was reciprocated withmore colors - orange, blue, green and yellow - which soon clung to every inch of her. Minutes after the color fight concluded, severalIndiana University students still ran around with powder in hand, painting peoples faces a bright shade of yellow, yelling Happy Holi!Even when this color hit Bruner with surprising impact, she expressed nothing but delight for the experience, which was part of a traditionalIndian celebration hosted by the IU Asian Culture Center. I just got really good vibes from everyone, Bruner said. Everyone was happy tobe there and celebrate this holiday that was tradition for them. The Holi festival was a celebration of spring and color that held significantcultural value for many IU students in attendance. India is so far away ... and I know its hard to go back. They brought a part of them hereand theyre sharing it with us. For Bruner, who will travel to England for a gap year after graduation, this festival marked both an end and abeginning. Since Im going off to England, this was a hurrah for that, she said. [Although Im leaving,] I could still be part of the collegelife ... It feels like Im getting closer to graduating because Im doing things on campus. The festival would linger long in her memory - andon her Chacos, which were still coated in powder the next day. As the year escalated, students throughout Bloomington South shared Brunersfeelings of finality. Every assignment, every club meeting, every practice was leading up to these last moments. The momentum that studentsgathered in the first and second trimesters reached its peak, finally felt in a frenzy of activity and surge of emotion. The South Dance Teamturned from stone to sentimental as the announcer called their first-place state finish; ^ upperclassmen crammed in30-odd weeks of knowledge for AP exams; and Dance Marathon members cried tears _ :£ of joy, holding upnumbers totaling $ 100,283.14 - all raised for the kids. Its powerful. Its unmistakable. South,THIS IS WHEREIT COUNTS.
