On Monday, January 6, when classes weresupposed to resume after winter break, freshman Emma OMahoney camedownstairs to discover that MCCSC hadcalled a snow day — and she proceeded tolet out a sigh of relief. I was really happybecause I didnt want to go back to schoolyet, OMahoney said. I watched a lot ofNetflix. [The extension] gave me a chance torelax, which was nice. But then things started to change. Thefollowing day, Tuesday, another snow daywas called. Then on Wednesday, MCCSCannounced yet another cancellation.Students, starting to get antsy, wanted out. Bythe end of the string of snow days, juniorLucie Scott just wanted to be back. After awhile I got sort of mad because I wanted togo see my friends or at least get out of thehouse. I almost would have rather gone toschool than stay cooped up in my house,Scott stated.Although the snow days were a nicesurprise, they started to lessen studentsincentive to complete schoolwork. The breakgave freshman Antonio Alicea a chance tohang out with his friends more, but it affectedhim once he got back into the swing ofthings. [The snow days] were fine, but Istarted to lose my motivation to get back ontrack for school because I wasnt doinghomework, said Alicea. The winter weather did not let up afterthe break. Two additional snow dayscontinued the academic pause, along with a%rand total of seven delays and two earlydismissals. Finally, late February allowedstudents and teachers to shed the cabin feverand look to the promise of spring break.- DENISE DOROTHEOtakingtheLUNGEPolar plunge participants, who daringly leapt into LakeMonroe on January 1, ranked their pain on the pain scale.68101-2HURTS A LITTLE BITWong-Baker Faces Rating Scale3-4HURTS A LITTLE MOREsenior Mena Fulton: 3Its not as bad as you think. You make it out to be sohorrible, but when you getthere its actually kind ofrefreshing and fun.5-6HURTS EVEN MOREsenior Elizabeth Getz: 6It was a different experience, and, obviously, really cold. But it was still really fun.7-8HURTS A WHOLE LOTsenior Victoria Drake: 8It was bitter, but we got outfast.
