Bloomington South studentsbecame curious about the story of thepurses, and thus began the Imprint Projectat South.The Imgrint Project is a non-profitorganization with chapters all over thecountry that sells goods-|made by at-riCambodian women, e>splained ChangSophomore William Hopkins,fellow member of the project, elaboiWe sell the items the women make anof the profits go to directly back to them.What makes Imprint unique is that aof the profits raised by the South chapter.are sent to the same eight women inCambodia. We wrote letters to themearlier in the year, junior Elise Ermanreminisced, and it was really cool becausethey sent us pictures of them reading theletters; it was touching. South Imprintmembers also sent letters which helped theCambodian women learn English.Were kind of like pen pals, and they •-■read our letters with the help of •interpreters, Hopkins added. Speakinganother language is a skill they can use tofind a higher-paying job.Making products for Imprint is more ofa stepping-off point for the women.
