Freshmanclasses went on a field ship to watch the show on September 1 1, after studying the playin their English classes. PHOTO BY SARAH BRUNER The group recovers after the planhas crashed. At this point in the play, the characters are all introduced to each other andfirst impressions are made. PHOTO COURTESY CARDINAL STAGEQUINTON: There was a lot of fighting.JONATHAN: So much fighting! Whatsa time we got in a fight? Every day.You didnt get that costume for me?You stole my costume. Or, Youregonna hit me in the face with thatspear, I just know it. Or every time wewould just say, You need to get yourspear down. Randy [the director] saidyou need to keep your spear down.Oh yeah, those were always the jokeslike, Randy would want you to do thisif he was here right now. Or Id say,Quinn, Ive been in more productionsthan you.It was really stressful and reallyintimidating [to do a show for the firsttime]. Whenever Id see Jack inSounds of South productions, Id think,Oh, all you have to do is memorizelines and get out on stage. But I neverreally appreciated the fact thateverything is blocked out in aprofessional theater production. It wasreally intimidating being in aprofessional production ... With abunch of these people who are doingthis as their jobs and are studying thisin school. Yeah, these people havebeen doing it for years, and to havethese two seniors who dont know howto act at all was weird, because wedbe like, Oh my gosh, theyre probablylaughing at us right now. If one of usever messed up on a line wed look ateach other and laugh, to be mean. Butit was nice to have that support. Iwouldnt be nice to you. What wasanother thing about the lines? Oh, notsaying them fast. Making sure to getthose pauses in there. If I said a linewrong, Jack would be critiquing meand pretending to be the director. Likethat one time when I told him heneeded to be more like, No, Im Eric.Id always correct him on that. It wasreally annoying.[We relate to our characters]because were always fighting andstuff. But were still best friends. Yeah, were best friends, even though werealways rough-housing. In the play, wehad our own group of friends on theisland, and in real life we have ourown group of friends at school, butthen we always have each other to fallback on. The only person they ever puttheir full trust into is each other. Yeah, they only fully trust each other. It was a cool experience. ///never forget it, because it defined thefirst twelve weeks of my senior year. And we had no social lives except foreach other. It was weird because thenwhen the play ended I didnt knowwhat to do with my life. It was such apleasure meeting all those people.- INTERVIEW BY DENISE DOROTHEOThree set of twins, sophomores Emily and Laura Barber, freshmen Denis and Davis Joseph, and juniors Brooke andChelsea Reed, test their classmates on the traits that differentiate them.
