Fuji, which - at over 1 2,000 feet- is the highest mountain in Japan. Judge and therest of the Solar Bike Team climbed Fuji during their secondyeek of their trip to Japan. Other highlights include petting deer in Nara, devouringdelicacies from Mister Donut, watching the sky from the bathouse in Ogata-Mura, contemplating life on the philosophers walk in Kyoto, exploring inMiyajima, and riding the Shinkansen all over Japan. Seniors Isabel Cullather and Arielle Moir work on one of the two solar-powered biyclesthat they raced in Japan. The team spent many hours preparing the bikes for the trip - and even more doing damage control at their hotel. To compensate for lowturnout, Elkins had to bike the 1 5-kilometer course twice. FC Seniors Isabel Cullather and Imogen Todd pet a deer in Nara. Later, one of the deerstomped on Todds head at the top of a mountain on Miyajima, creating a painful but interesting memory. A solar car drives across the finish linein Ogata-Mura. Cars like this inspired the South team to build their own.
