PHOTO BY ISABEL CULLATHERThe boys golf team faced the challenges of keepingup on the course, and in their courses, as finals andAP tests overlapped with important meets. As most students scheduleswere winding down for the end ofthe year, the boys golf teams wasspeeding up as their springtimeseason got started. One of thebiggest challenges for the team wasbalancing golf time with study timefor AP tests and finals. To alleviate some of the stress, the boys golf coaches were morethan willing to work with thestudents study schedules. I hadfive finals, and our coach let usleave practice early if we had tostudy so it made it easier to balancefinals and golf, explainedsophomore Coleman Hawkins. However, even withunderstanding coaches, sometimeslate nights were inevitable. Forsophomore Benjamin Dawson, late nights often meant having to putoff study time until his study hallperiod. With matches onweekdays, it meant getting homelate, which meant not being able tostudy at night because I wouldcome home drained and tired, saidDawson.Sophomore Samuel Karcherwas used to balancing his timebetween sports and studying. Itwasnt really my first time[balancing time] because I playedbasketball and tennis too and wewould have some late nights withthat...I just use my time the best I canand dont procrastinate, he said.Senior Zachary Walters wasa perfect example of balancing golfand school, working hard in the APMicroeconomics test just hoursbefore the teams match againstNorth. Having the match on theday of my microecon test was kindof stressful because I was having tostudy while preparing to play ourrival, said Walters.Balancing their spring sportwith equally demanding springacademic schedules was certainlynot easy, but somehow the boysgolf team was able to walk awaywith a great season while stillkeeping up with their studies.-SARAH MARSHALLTWO WEEKS IN$ ynthesisa growing collection of photosSenior Todd Richardsonstands with his mother whilehe is recognized duringSouths senior nightcelebrations on May 18.The Panthers celebrated thesix seniors after their victoryover Floyd Central.
