Description: On Saturday, March 30 the trackand field season had finally arrived, and students were itching to startcompeting. Bloomington South trackathletes had been preparing formonths in anticipation for the firstoutdoor meet to kick off the season. It may have seemed likeathletic practices happened onlyafter school, but for senior runnerJordan Huntoon, they began at 6a.m. almost every day. Afterrunning 2-3 miles each morning, hecontinued his training after schoolwith the rest of his teammates.Huntoon described his typicalpractice as warming up with a milerun and then doing some dynamicstretching, followed by either aworkout or a recovery run.Being both a middle and longdistance runner, Huntoon loggedhundreds of miles every month.Right now I am at 55 miles perweek and hope to hold it at that, said Huntoon.Huntoon ran many differentevents during his meets, rangingfrom the 400 meter dash to the1600 meter distance event. Hismain focus was on the 800 meterrace because he had the potentialto win state for that event. All thishard work had a larger goal thanwinning state, however. Huntoonhoped that all his countless hoursof hard work would carry him evenfarther in his athletic career as hemade the switch to collegiaterunning at Indiana University aftergraduating. In order to perform atan elite level I will have to put inmore miles and do all the littlethings that will help me in the end, said Huntoon.- KYLE CARPENTER1, Senior Anthony Pizzo competes in a sprint medley during Souths IndoorInvitational at Ills indoor track on February 28. PHOTO BY SARANEMESSenior rugby player Stuart Carney describes someof the quintessential components of rugby. If you kick the ball out ofbounds then it is your line out.The ball must be thrownbetween the two teams andthey attempt to catch it orknock it out of the otherteams hands towardthemselves/*This happens when the ball isthrown or hit forward. Twoteams attempt to gainpossession by using their feetto push the ball to the back tobe passed out, all whilepushing the other team back. You can only pass the ballbackward to a team mate.Sometimes it takes one pass, other times it takes multiple. When you do score it iscalled a try.
