Notsurprisingly, the young boy wasexceedingly energetic. He lurchedback and forth, wiggling his body as ifhe were doing a complex dance, asnior Sarah Brinegar struggled tomplete the print. Eventually, sheanaged to press the boys green-bated hands on to the white banner, and as he bounded away happily, shesmiled at her small success. This was the life of a cadetteacher, Bloomington South seniorsworking afternoons as a teachingassistants at local elementary schools.Seniors like Brinegar, Ellen Groggand Douglas Terrill, interested inpursuing child education as a career, tested themselves in the real world withthe cadet teaching program. This is a huge learningexperience in learning how to dealwith kids, explained Grogg. He was quick to point out, however, that overall cadet teachingwas a really great experience.Although these students playedthe roles of teachers, as Groggexplained, being a cadet teacher wasa learning experience. In fact, in manycases the teachers seemed to learn asmuch as the students.I have a lot more respect forteachers now, said Grogg.
