Description: ««i ijj sheading southfor the seasonThe Bloomington South cheerleading squad traveledto Orlando, Florida to compete in the UniversalCheerleaders Association national competition.The Bloomington South cheerleading competition squad wentafter a national title in Orlando,Florida. South competed against30 other teams, includingBloomington North and severalother high schools from Indiana,Even though they had just a fewhands hit the ground duringtumbling and only one stunt fall,they placed 13th and were notable to make it to the semifinals,We did much better than lastyear. Even though we didnt makeit to semifinals I was still happywith my teams performance, saidsenior Adina Johnson.It was only 35 degrees andthats why we had so many handsdown in our tumbling. It was socold that our bodies were notwarmed up, and our muscles werenot prepared to flip over,sophomore Emily Sipes explained.The near freezing temperatureaffected everyones performance,even the best gymnasts on theteam,In preparation for thecompetition, Coach Jeana Kerrand Coach Ashley Adair usuallyhad the girls practice for fourhours every week in addition totheir regular three-hourconditioning sessions, And thenthere were those intensepractices that lasted for six hours.Sophomore Kelli McDevitt sharedthat we had at least three dressrehearsals to prepare us for whatit would feel like to perform infront of a crowd.The squad put in a lot of time,dedication and effort and made alot of improvements, Althoughthey did not win this year, theyknew that they would be readynext year to take the national titleback home,- AMANDA STRUNKSophomore Emily Sipes leads the crowd at the Martinsville football game.
