Taylor Galpern was one ofthose two given the opportunity to earn theWells Scholarship; awarded to no more than 22high school students attending IU. A lot of myfriends had applied for eight or nine colleges, but I knew I wanted to try IU, says Galpern. Since I worked so hard during my highschool career, I figured I might as well applywhat I have done. It was a great opportunity. The process included a five page packet filledwith spaces for general information, questions foressays, and yes interviews. I was nervous. Wehadnt received questions of what they would askus, says Galpern.Although it was stressful at times to maintain herrank of 15th in the class and continue her success ingymnastics, she says her familys support and frequent runs really helped. Im pretty sure I pushedmyself harder than my parents did because I knew Icould. The runs just really helped ease my stress, says GalpernEven though she didnt win the Wells Scholar, Galpern had alot to be proud of as a finalist. -MCKENZIE LUEKENseniors | ALBUM | 189
