Description: its all about the wagonBloomington Souths Dance Marathon raised an unprecedented $32,409.27.Members of the Marathons steering committee shared their blueprint for success.Anticipation and excitement were inthe air as the final posters, which wereto reveal Souths total contribution toRiley Childrens Hospital, were handedout to the anxious Bloomington SouthDance Marathon steering committee.A thousand thoughts flew through theheads of those waiting to flip the posters as well as the people watching fromthe audience.Among the thoughts was the question,Would the total surpass the 2008 Marathons total? This anxious momentwas the best part of Dance Marathonfor many of the people in attendance.Senior Sarah Hass, a member ofthe steering committee, said of the moment, Its a weight off your shoulderswhen the total is announced. Its so fun,but stressful all at the same time.This years marathon raised an astounding $32,409 to help Riley Childrens Hospital. Part of the total forthe marathon came from a first timeevent. On the Saturday morning of themarathon, the Because We Care Fairfor children occurred. Senior HillaryWhitehead, the executive directorof the steering committee, said that theidea for the event was a group effort,thought up by all of the members ofthe executive committee. She said ofthe event, [The fair] was pretty successful. There were activities that wereappealing to all age groups. In the future, we want to expand the elementary school fundraising and the kidscarnival. If we get more kids involvedwhen they are younger, then when theycome to South, they will already knowabout the cause.Junior Carly Derheimer recentlyfound out that next year, she will befilling Whiteheads shoes as the executive steering committee director. Shesaid, I am very excited for next year.My goals are to make more money forRiley Hospital and to get the wholestudent body involved. Hopefully, nextyear the Because We Care fair will behuge.The Because We Care Fair willcontinue to benefit the recipients oftreatment at Riley Childrens Hospital. Whitehead said, Riley ChildrensHospital helps children no matter whattheir financial standing is, so it is important to support this hospital and thechildren who are sick.
