Marching Band - Pep Band - Color GuardIf youve ever been to a home footballgame, youve seen them. They playinstruments, march in formation, andentertain the crowd with the energy ofa toddler on a sugar high. They are themembers of the Panther Regiment. They differed from other high schoolbands. According to band directorRobert Dubinski, the Panther Regiment was different because it didnt winmany awards. Instead it was all aboutentertaining [the crowd] and makingfriends. They didnt worry aboutgetting great scores or doing perfectshows. The most important thing to thegroup was having fun. They entertained the crowd by dancing around with an energetic performance and had a fan base that followedthem from competition to competition. This 2008 seasons show was Metamorphosis. In the show, senior Nathaniel Stanger played the classic, nerdy, geeky guy, said Dubinski.Throughout the course of the show,Stanger and his character Stinkylearned how to dance jazz, rock, andhip-hop.The performance certainly made theRegiment a crowd favorite. They wonthe Peoples Choice Award at competitions six times. Freshman LaurenHarrison said they won this awardalmost every weekend. They certainly kept the attentionof the fans that had given them theawards. So much so, that Dubinskicalled the fans a cult following. From beginning to end, fans werethoroughly mesmerized. —HOLLY HAYSthis onetimeat bandcampStudents inmarching bandand color guardshare theirfavorite bandcamp memories.Megan Hrabak andI went in the womenschoir dressing roomfor three hours andtried to ricochet ashake cup into a trashcan.—senior Jason GoyOn break for lunchwe were walking toSonic and Kenny[White] tried to throwan apple at me, butmissed, and hit Lindsay [Blair].—sophomore PriscillaWhen I was learninghow to flip rifles, Iwas in the middle ofthe 50-yard line whenI threw a double tossand my rifle flew tothe 30-yard line andhit a girl.—senior Brittani TowFreshman Christy Thompson plays thexylophone during halftime of a South footballgame, photo by Dylan passwaiter84 | ACTIVITIES | bands and color guard |
