Last summer, the team went tosophomore Emily Rogers houseon Lake Monroe. We went out onboats for a couple hours, laid out, andjust had fun, said freshman KaciConklin. After a day of games and tanning, theteam set up tents and camped out onthe shore. Honesdy, the camping wasnot that great. We were all bunched upcramped, and miserable, but a least wewere miserable together, said sophomore Madilyn Welton.Of course, the girls had plenty ofother ways to become acquainted witheach other before being crammed intotents. After the purple and white scrimmage, a scrimmage in which varsityand JV teams formally play each other, the three volleyball teams presentedskits they had rehearsed. The freshmanteam was up first. Freshman LorinDespirito pretended to cry while shesaid they did not have a skit. The JVteam showed the coaches what it wasall about portraying a perfect volleyball team, doing everything the coaches wished the varsity would do. Varsitytook the traditional route. The varsityskit normally makes fun of the coaches, said senior Alison Welken. Her fellow senior Charlotte Zorntook a chance in the varsity skit, portraying Coach Bob Chin as a ninja.Everyone was laughing so hard, saidConklin. However, the volleyball team doesnot do all this just to have fun. Allof the games and activities we do letus get to know each other personally, rather than just on the court. Ifwe know the people were playingwith well, its easier to speak up andcommunicate with them, and thatmakes us a better team, Welton said.-MARCO REGOUWhen did you feel most like a team this season?JkLDuring the first team bonding, I feelthat we all really bonded well whenwe stuffed 11 in a six-person tent.—freshman Lorin DespiritoDuring Team Bonding at LakeMonroe when we all tubed togetherand stayed in the tents, it got prettyrough, but it was not that bad sinceeveryone did it together.—sophomore Hanna VanpeltTelling ghost stories at the campfrre.—sophomore Kelsey Miller36 | SPORTS | volleyball |
