Story Bur Anna Z,aretWhen it comes to digging deefer into the happeningsof south high school the staff members of Souths newspaper The optmlst, and yearbook, The jothic, are the ones whofind the facts. The staffers of both publications work hardyear long to make sure they meet deadlines and get theirstories heard, students work hard in and out of class to geteverything done. On deadlines we stay after school to geteverything finished and to the printer on time, said juniorBen Wolin, an optimist staff member. We have issuescome out once a month on Fridays, added Woiln.A lot goes into making The optimist and Thejothic. Both publications have not only writers, but photographers. ( liked taking pictures because they would letyou go in places that people wouldnt let you go normally, said junior Molly Meridith, sjothic staff. The hard part wasgetting people not to look at you and pose. Photographerswere often found taking pictures of unsuspecting studentsthroughout the school day and at every South event.Another important aspect of both the paper and yearbook was the use ofcomfuters. \ fix. froblems on computersand work on the website, sofhomore Noah Dwiel said. Wecreate pages using the comfuters and the website fosts allthe information about buying yearbooks and ads. pwielwas one of a few staff members of The Jothlc and The optimist staff who specialized in working with the comfuters.optimist staff writers worked hard on planningeach issue, we have a story planning day where everybodysplits into small groufs and tries to think of story ideas,Wolin said. We all go around saying ideas and people willsign up for things on the board if they like the idea, onceyou get a story you talk to people who know about [the subject], and a lot of the time talk to the administration. Thestaffs worked hard to create ten fascinating issues of theThe optimist and a yearbook to remember.Below-. Michael Ratliff oo, edits astory for the next issue of The optimist.
