Kvale sfonsorsJFTS, Science Olympiad, Robotics and solar Bike. Lingle expresses his gratitude towardsKvale, she is the best, the best teacher Ive ever had. shesprovided the opportunity for me. Kvale said the reason forsponsoring so many clubs was to provide a chance to combe and challenge her students outside the classroom,. Thisyear Kvale was honored for her involvement in the community and science clubs by being named the city of Bloom-ingtons Commission on the Status of- Womens ZiOOGWoman of the year.One of the clubs Kvale sponsored wasjunior engineering Technical Society (jeTS) jeTS is a club designated for students to get together and study for an engineering test. The ex.am is based on a combination of physicsand math, students who have been in the club in the pastdescribe the test as stressful jess competed in Indianapolisthis year; the varsity team took first place in the state and20th in the nation.Another science club at South is Solar Bike, solarBike is a combination of athletes and academics, saidKvale. During Solar Bike, students arefrovided an opportunity to travel and compete, students first build a solarbike then they compete with the bike they build. Solarcompetitions are incredibly stressful but fun in a good waybecause whatever goes wrong, [the students] can fix it, saidKvale.Made up of 30 students, science olympiad is thebiggest science club, veteran eric Hayes has been involvedin science olympiad for five years. He enjoys the clubsand said science olympiad got him more interested in science. This year the science olympiad team came in firstfor regionals and first for state.Junior Lani Beams joinedScience olympiad for the very first time this year andsaid, it was a good opportunity to meet people with similarinterests as you, who plan on attending the same schoolsand goals for college. Freshman Tony <jao seemed to agree,this was also his first year on science olympiad. <jao said,Ive gotten to know more people outside of vny classes.Above: During some down timewhile competing on the PurdueUniversity camjus, Ramine Rajaii, oj, tries to untangle himself jjfrom, ducktape. Science olympiad |wasnt all fun though, the team |worked hard and put in extra |hours all year.
