Story By: mzg McGillivrayI wanted to play hockey because i saw the Mighty Truckswhen I was seven, said junior Drew ogborn. inspiration comes easilyif youre in the right place at the right time, it can result in a majorfart of life, like hockey, which could lead to another thing you love- inogborns case, lacrosse. Some things just have that snow-ball effect. But for now, ogborn will stick with lacrosse and hockey.similar things happened with sophomore Luc Letner: \ wentto a hockey game Inst. Louis when I was four and from there I wasjust hooked.Hockey, lacrosse and rugby are all club sports at south. Inother words, they arent school sfonsored or \HSAA sanctioned, itscool because the clubs are basically just run by the athletes and theirparents, and the school Isnt all that Involved, but school support wouldbe nice, said ogborn. They are also major parts of many peoples lives, but not aig part of South. Letner says, over winter break we drove aroundhe whole time to Indianapolis and upstate, and we were pretty muchnsef arable.Although hockey and lacrosse are clubs, they tend to travela lot more than some other sports. They have traveled all over theMidwest, but It has been mostly contained In Indiana. Wen thoughthey are traveling teams, ogborn said that the lacrosse team reallyis not very good, but It is probably lack of experience since they are afairly young team at South.Rugby, however, Is expected to be a very good team, this year, judging from the score of the first game: 3>£>-o to the Panthers. Juniorsam. Enari Is one of the leaders of the team because he has so muchexperience with It. \ like rugby undeniably more [than other sportsat South], because Ive been exposed to It for all of my life and myfamily is also really involved in rugby, said Bnari. He plans tocontinue It In college and hopefully professionally and has alreadystarted with the college experience as Bnari has trained with the lu.team when rugby was not active at South. The existence of club sports Is something that mainlydepends on the flayers and their respective environments. But It alsodefends on Inspiration to originate In the first place. This Is why amovie as simple as The Mighty t>ucks can Instantly give someone asimple hobby that just happens to come with a few friends, or It canpark your career and the rest of your life.Right: Ready for a face-off, Drew ogborn,oj-,frefares for the game to start, ogborn has playedhockeu for 11 u\ears.Below: Carson Day, OS, prepares totake a face-off during a lacrossegame against Noblesville.
