Dens* Domes* andDungeonsBy Jen WinstonGo to your room! Sometimes, this exclamation was apunishment, but to numerous South students, being sent totheir rooms was a reward. This was because many students hadbedrooms to brag about; bedrooms that acted as their escapefrom reality.Freshman Lisi Kent-Isaac loved spending time in herown spacious getaway. I have a really cool room, she said.Kent-Isaacs rooms stand-out feature was its color coded wallswith furniture to match. Half of Kent-Isaacs room was pink, with corresponding pink chairs and desks against those walls. The other half was similar, except the walls and furniture wereturquoise. To complete the look, the corner entry to Kent-Isaacsattached attic was entirely black: chairs, stairs, and all.Senior Jeff Kloosterman enjoyed chilling in his room despiteits lack of color. My rooms sweet because of all the posters it hason the wall, he said. Kloostermans walls also sported both theItalian and Canadian flags. Ive also got these glow in the darkstars the all over my ceiling. Theyre pretty tight, Kloostermanadmitted.Junior Colleen Cahill admired the result of the renovationher bedroom went under in August, 2005. I wanted, like, astudio apartment of my own, Cahill said. [The builders] did a lotof work. Sure enough, Cahills bedroom renovation consistedof building a wall, adding two doors, placing tiles, recarpeting, rebuilding a fireplace, putting up beat board, installing a newsink and shower, painting the bathroom and bedroom walls, andpurchasing all new furniture. The total process took three months.Bedrooms were and still are an escape from homework, parents, and social drama. Students may take extreme measuresto get the bedroom they want, but most would consider the hardwork worth while.Juniors Kelsey and KendallKent pose in their separate butadjoining rooms, surrounded bypictures of their friends. The twinshad a front entrance in common, but in order to enter Kelseys room, one had to walk through Kendalls.Above: Juniors J.T.
