We attempted to capture the essence of the 2006 school year in images and words. These pictures and words show what made this year unique. Some of thesewords: performance, excellence, service, and diligence symbolize what it meant to be aPanther in the 2005-2006 school year.PerformanceIn sports this year, many individuals as well as teams advancedto high level competition. The gymnastics team made an appearance atstate for the first time in many years and placed 5th. In running, sophomore Corinne Innes demonstrated her determination by representingthe cross country teams at state. Furthermore, both the boys and girlstrack and field teams advanced to the state level. The girls team brokemany school records, and vaulter junior Stephanie Chin placed secondin the state. Our wrestlers continued to impress us and the communityby sending four individuals to the state meet, with seniors Paul Youngand Kurt Kinser winning in their individual weight classes. Our strongboys golf team won its sectional and went on to place fourth in the state.Excellence1>*jffar OpeningIn academics, South continued its tradition of excellence. National Honor Society initiated a record breaking 116 new members. SouthsScience Olympiad team proved itself elite as it was the state champion and one of only four schools in Indiana to advance to the nationalcompetition. The Speech, JETS and Academic Superbowl teams hadimpressive records and demonstrated their academic abilities. The Solar Bike team placed at the national level. Many South students whoattend Hoosier Hills Career Center proved themselves this year; especially notable were the six South members of the Bloomington RoboticsClub. The club placed first at the 2006 Robotics Boilermaker Regionalat Purdue. The National Scholastic Press Association recognized the Optimist with its prestigious Pacemaker Award. Nine students were National Merit Finalists, and the seniors said their last farewells to the schoolin June with 168 Honors Diplomas awarded during commencement.»«rs4*C-
