Description: eligious ClubsA new generation finds newways to celebrate its faithStory by Nicole SarpaMondays were quite possibly the most dreaded day of the school week for moststudents. But for others, Monday was the most anticipated day of the week.Senior Josh Gornall attended Young Life every Monday at 7:32 p.m. For Gornall, Young Life is like a party; its for anyone, any age that attends [Bloomington] South.Young Life is a great way for students to express their religious beliefs outside of school. It also allowed students to relax and have fun. We do karaoke to songs like Sweet HomeAlabama said Gornall. If karaoke wasnt your thing this year, then maybe Campus Life was. CampusLife was a Christian-based group that also met on Monday nights. This was also anotherway for students to get out of the house and express their religious beliefs. Campus Lifewas conducted a little bit differently than Young Life. It focused more on small discussiongroups centered around high school issues, such as relationships. For junior Brett Puckett,Campus Life gave him a sense of security. I like the environment around me because I canjust be myself, said Puckett. If you wanted to get out of the house towards the end of the week, you might havetried out FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes). It was a national program that Southpicked up last year. For sophomore Katrina Connor, FCA was part of her daily Thursdayroutine. FCAs studies were based around sports and sportsmanship in relationship toGod. I love the social side to FCA; I get to hang out with my teammates and get to knowother Christians, said Connor.Whether it was singing karaoke, relaxing with friends, or talking about sports, these clubs were a great way to get out of the house, meet new people and have some funthroughout the week. Although not everyone practices some kind of faith, those that doenjoved coming together to have some good clean fun.Above: Seniors Kayla Adams, Emilee Webb and AliEtnier prepare to be raised to new heights to walkacross a wooden beam between two trees.
