Description: |
With 37 clubs operating this year, there was a chance for every student to find onehe or she felt at home with and wanted to belong to. Although this was a year of continuingtraditions for many older clubs, several newer clubs stepped up this year with opportunities or communal fundraising activities. One group that blossomed this year was the BlackCulture Club.Although the BCC has been around for a few years, this year the club emerged as aprominent club at Bloomington High School South. Everyday during Black History Month(February), the BCC president, seniorTiawanlyn Gongloe, read a passage over the morning announcements. In addition, the step team members danced during lunches to promotea large BCC performance, held in Souths auditorium. This performance included manystudents from South, as well as numerous community members -- all celebrating their heritage.Another group that benefited the community this year was the Riley Dance Marathon Steering Committee. This was the second year for this Riley fundraiser at South, butthe idea came from Indiana University, which has been hosting this event since 1991. Thisyear, South students went the extra mile and hyped up the event to make more money tosend to Riley Childrens Hospital, along with students representing Indiana University.Furthermore, the committee members had games and activities set up for the whole night, guest speakers shared their stories regarding Riley, and even fun costumes that changedevery hour. At the end of the whole ordeal, Souths Dance Marathon Committee made wellover an astonishing $10,000 and exceeded that of Bloomington Norths Dance Marathon. This year, there was success across the board in clubs and activities. All enrichedthe community, and more importantly, got students of all backgrounds and experiencesinvolved. Whether it was helping with Dance Marathon, or dancing for the Black CultureClub, every student who participated will be remembered for their individual impacts onthe school environment.Activities /^e@$f&\j Activities |
