Not only did they put on one of the most anticipated high-school musicals in the Bloomington community, but the groupcompeted and placed in ISSMA state contest, took a trip to New YorkCity, and finished off the year with Finale. The choir started working before school even started.Rehearsals for Oklahoma! began in July and continued through thebeginning of the year until opening night in November. We just dothe musical at such a high caliber that it takes so much time andwork. But in the end its so worth it to be able to be a part of that, said sophomore Colleen Cahill. The two Saturday performances ofOklahoma! were sold out shows. When its your senior yearespecially, its such a great feeling to be able to have a role and be apart of the show. Oklahoma! was one of my favorite shows weve puton in my four years in the group, said senior Gavin Hahn. After competing and placing 12th in the ISSMA state choircontest, the group took its annual trip, going for the first time to NewYork City. For many members it was their first time being in the cityand having a chance to be there with the group just made it better. The Statue of Liberty was cool, but really what I had the most fundoing was just staying up late in the hotel rooms and dressing upwith my friends, said sophomore Cici Lemke. While in the city thewhole group saw The Lion King on Broadway and some studentsbought tickets to go see additional shows. Phantom of the Opera, wasamazing. Seeing Broadway shows made us feel like we were gettingthe best out of the city, Cahill said. The groups end of the year program, Finale, includedeverything from classical duets to the Napoleon Dances. The showoffered a chance for members to show off all their musical talents. Acrowd favorite was a popular rock song, Take Your Mama, sung byjunior Sam Coleman who was accompanied by fellow juniorsRainelle Bumbaugh on piano and Tommy Schell on guitar, as well asfreshman Charlie Jesseph playing drums. The end of the year Finaleshowcased all the talent and work that the group had producedthroughout the entire year.Sounds of Soutn 201 |
