Junior Steve Brisudastarted the club. I thought students neededa chance to have a fun way to exercise andpractice their badminton game, Brisuda said.The Backpacking club was an old favorite,visiting places like Red River Gorge in thefall. The club has been active for ten yearsand was fun because members had a chanceto sleep underneath the stars, freshmanTravis Hocutt said.Some students opted for the indoorapproach to fun, however. The chess clubgave opportunities to play with others of thesame skill level. The club even went to acompetition in the fall.But Solar Bike was by far the mostsuccessful of these clubs. For the first timein three years we are going to Japan for theworld race, junior Wes Monts said. Its aprestigious honor to be racing in Japan withall the other international teams, plus weplaced first in the national competition inKansas.Junior Steve Brisuda leapsforward to wack theshuttlecock over the net.This was Badminton Clubsfirst year at South.
