JuniorDevin Garvey said the club talked about Irishculture and current events, ate out togetherand saw Irish-related movies like AngelasAshes. In general, Garvey noted the verygood, very happy atmosphere of themeetings, and said he looked forward tomore in the future.Students interested in Latin and ancientRoman culture found Latin Club to be a funextracurricular club. Junior Allison Charles, athird-year member of the club, said that inLatin Club, We find ways to get Latin outthere...make it not so dead. During theirLatin Day, an event for Latin classes fromNorth and South, they ate a traditionalRoman meal and watched the movie, A FunnyThing Happened on the Way to the Forum.From the start of the school year, the BlackCulture Club worked during meetings on BlackHistory Month events, and helped each otherthrough issues. For Black History Month, theclub set up a display and researched lesswell-known African American people inhistory, senior Brittany Adams explained.Besides Martin Luther King Jr. and RosaParks, there have been other AfricanAmericans who have made a difference, shesaid. The club also wanted to raiseawareness of the African American studentpopulation at South. Although we are fewin numbers, we try to stay positive, Adamssaid about the club.Junior Michael Janderparticipates in Latin Dayfestivities.
