JV/FRESHMENSoftballStory by Ryan BeasrchAll of the sophomores returning to play softball this year were determined to have abetter season than they did their freshmen year. After the freshman team went 2-10 lastyear, the sophomores were looking forward to starting over on the JV team. The JVsquad started out strong, winning their first four games in a row. Success was not theonly goal of the J V team this season however, the group of ten sophomores and twofreshmen also wanted to become close, so that their friendships would help themtogether on the field. We were all really, really close, said sophomore BrookeAnderson. We went out to eat together and made shirts for the North game together.The team also came up with some unique cheers during the games. The best part abouta softball game is cheering for each other in the field and in the dugout. We always haveso much energy and have the goofiest cheers that we are always doing, said sophomoreAlyssa Hinnefeld.The freshman softball group looked to make a strong impression on their coaches intheir first year. The girls also hoped to bond as a group so that they could have asuccessful season and future. The team shared many fun memories in the process. Thecar rides over [to Winslow Fields] were definitely always fun, said freshman TaylorMcAfee. Both the freshmen and JV teams played their home games at Winslow Fields.Avoiding an out tor the team, freshman Mia Blacconiere slidesinto first base.
