VarsitySoftballStory by Ryan BearschThe Varsity Girls softball team started the season with a new line-up, but manyfamiliar faces. There were five seniors on the team, all leaders, who helped thePanthers bounce back from a slow start to their season to a respectable season withclose games over ranked teams such as Hamilton Southeastern and Martinsville, andmajor victories over teams such as cross-town rival Bloomington North.Beating North was the biggest accomplishment of our season because we showedourselves how well we could play as a team, and it was an errorless game. It reallywas a turning point for us, junior Sara Johnson said.We were very close because we had really great seniors, junior Amber Hawkinssaid. [Senior] Kelly [Cartwright] was our main leader for the season, she always gotus really pumped up for the games, and she set an example for us at practice. Shealways had a great attitude. Although the girls record was 7-22, the most importantpart of their season was that their wins came during the second part of their season, ensuring that the team improved as the games went on.I think we always practiced at full force, and were always mentally prepared forpractice and games. Everyone on the team worked hard and gave it her all, juniorNicole Addazio said.benior Amanda Beecham catches the ball thrown to her andmoves to tag the runner from the opposing team out at third baseBeecham played third and the outfiethe xanthiers.During a home game this season, senior Cara bvndepitches the ball to catcher bara Johnson, as sophomorebtevie Deckard looks on from behind at short-stop.unvder was a three vear starter on the varsitv team.94 gports |
