JV/Freshman GirlsBASKETBALLStory By Nicole AddazioThe JV Girls basketball had a strong season, which they ended in a victory over rivalsLawrence Central, whom they had lost to the season before. Beating [Lawrence] Central and[Bloomington] North were really special because not only are they great teams, but they arerivals, and we really played our hearts out against them, sophomore Ashley Baird said. Playinghard offensively was something the girls worked towards throughout the season, as well as playingtogether. We were closer as a whole this year, so we played as a team more, allowing us to beatteams we didnt last season, sophomore Rosie Korniak said. The team spent a lot of their timebonding on bus rides, eating, and joking with one another. We always looked forward to theHeavenly Ham after games, and riding back to South together. Wed sing and make fun of MaggieStork; she was so funny, Korniak added. The team also got pumped up for games by chanting andsinging the school song. They had pasta parties before every home game.The Freshman Girls basketball team finsihed the season with a 4-18 rescord. Therewere many funny memories, and the girls ended the season with the satisfaction of knowing theyalways gave 100 percent during games.The girls never gave up and always played as hard as they could, even though theyentered most games as underdogs, freshman Coach Kara Matthew said. They were a lot of funto be around. The team started the season on a rough note from never having played togetherbefore. At the beginning it was different because we didnt know how to play with each other, buttowards the end we really came together, freshman Rachel Schulz said. Im glad our season waslong, freshman Lauren Fell added, because we really became a team in the end.freshman Courtney Sunderland protects the ball as a defender guardsher in the game against Center Crove. Sunderland was a guard torthe freshman team and led the team in scoring.Sophomore Sarah Hoke is trapped by two defenders nearthe basket.
