Description: Off the BlockBoys swimming struggles in season, but showsimprovements ~by Tiffany SchopmeyerThe teams best swimmerwas Logan Hunter. He swamconsistently well throughoutthe year, and placed in boththe 500 free and 200 individualmedley at State.I scored virtually the samein every meet, but managed todo better in a different eventeach time. My favorite meetwas during the 500 againstColumbus; I ranked top three,Hunter said.Senior Logan Huntermanaged to be a good teamleader; he was someone whoknew how to step up and takecharge. He is a great team leaderand makes everyone satisfied. In one meet against BedfordNorth Lawrence, he helped theteam out by beating the bestswimmer in state and gettingfirst points, freshman MattPeck said. For the first time, the teamhad a mascot to bring along onto the meets.Someone brought in apineapple for a team dinnerand we never ate it. Then weended up taking it to all of themeets. It sort of became theteam mascot, freshman JonMuscato said.Every year members of theteam undergo a change inhairstyle, this year being noexception. Team members cameto school with weird hairstylesbefore shaving their headscompletely. We always have a shavingparty. The seniors shave thefreshmens heads and thenthey have to go to school with aweird hair cut, sophomoreChad Harris said. The team would get togetherin the purple room. This was away for the coach to get themall together and give them apep talk about the meet.We would get together andtalk with the coach about anydoubts we had about ourswimming ability. We had asmall team this year and it waseasy to think about not doingwell against a larger school, sophomore Ben Maidi said.Terre Haute North was oneteam that the Panthers werevery competitive with. Theyknew Terre Haute North was abeatable team, butunfortunately they lost tothem. They were about the samesize as us. Since they wereequal to us in almost every waywe tried harder to beat them, senior Jonas Savage said.auren DemmingAdd it upEdgewood: 95-82 LMuncie Central: 124-37 LTerre Haute South: 91-83 LMartinsville: 102-67 WPerry Meridian: 125-54 LWarren Central: 107-73 WCarmel: 149-34 LBedford: 99-87 LColumbus North: 135-45 LBloomington North: 126-55 LSeymour: 96-87 LTerre Haute North: 98-82 LSectional: 3rd= 2-10The Big GameThe Setup:Sectional, Feb. 17 and 19, Bloomington Southpool. The Hype:The team was small, leading to many defeats.
