Description: College choicesand applicationshave seniors ...Preparingfor the Next StepMatt Gibsonby Tarn my JarvisFor some seniors it has come uptoo fast, for others it couldnt comesoon enough: the time for them tobegin thinking about college and layingout their plans for the future.Thetransition was easier for those withsiblings who had already gone throughthe process.Since my sister is a senior (incollege) I had to go to all her collegevisits when I was in seventh grade. Ialso went my eighth grade year, thenagain my sophomore year, so by then Ialready knew what schools I wantedto apply to (Boston College, BostonUniversity, Michigan, North Carolina, and Trinity College), senior LauraBarnes said.Others seemed to beoverwhelmed by having to makedecisions that will have such a greatinfluence on their adult lives. Forthese students it seems like animpossible task to choose a careerthat they will continue to enjoy formany years to come. Its really tough to decide what tostudy and deciding on what I want todo for the rest of my life. I am afraidIll choose something I wont like. Idont know what I will be like 20years from now. I dont want tochoose something that later Ill hate, senior Aaron Scales said.In addition to these concerns, there were also essays that had to bewritten in order to apply to certaincolleges, as well as recommendationsto obtain from teachers andcounselors. Its tough. A lot of the essays askyou to write about yourself...so youhave to figure out how to writeabout yourself without soundingconceited, senior David Bercovicisaid. All this work, in addition toschool and extra-curricular activities, could be very stressful for seniors. However, it could all pay off when anacceptance letter arrives. Senior AprilSutherlin said,It was a great feelingto be accepted to the colleges of mychoice (IU and Cedarville). I wasexcited to be accepted and alsorelieved that I could stop worryingabout whether or not I would beaccepted.Life after high school?Students share plans for the future ...• I plan to go to college to bea pharmacist.—sophomore Holly McCollough• I am going to Purdue andplan on majoring inengineering.—senior Matt Reed• I plan on getting a job andlooking at colleges.—junior Codee Archer* I am going to Purdue witha possible major in physicaltherapy.—senior Rebekah Shirley* After high school I plan togo to IU, but I am not surewhat career I want to pursue.—sophomore Alison DennyQuotes collectedby Tommy JarvisbackGlancing up from the form, senior LesleyWeaver completes a National HonorSociety scholarship application. How is the class going?A: I think its going fine. Before, I was giving alot of historical background with the literature Iwas teaching.
