This wasa what many students werepreparing for on the nights of Sept.30, Oct. 1 and Oct. 2 as the seniordirected One Acts took the stage ofCarmichael Hall. Four senior members ofTheatre South chose, directed andproduced the plays.One Acts were senior productions.Every show that happened was becausethe seniors wanted them to. They chosethe costumes, actors, sets and othervarious things, senior director CharlesPearce said.The two plays chosen for theproduction were the Neil Simon play TheGood Doctor, directed by seniors TylerBruner, Pearce and Rachel Peters, andIn the play The Life andDeath of Larry Benson,senior BrentonMcQueary, playing SamBenson, displays feelingsof fear and regret whileSophomore Emily Radkestands in the background.Radke played Jessie,daughter of Sam Benson.The Death and Lifeof Larry Benson,written by ReginaldRose and directedby KristinDemming. Brunerand Pearce directedtheir act of TheGood Doctortogether. Pearcedirected one scene,Bruner directed oneand they directed afew mutually.Bruner and Pearcedirected the firstLauren Demming half of the play, andPeters directed the last half.I was in the scene DefenselessCreature which was directed by Rachel.All the directors were great, they were alot of fun to be with. I just love acting,Ive been doing it all my life, senior RyanBetts said.Some of the scenes included in theproduction were about a banker with goutwho gets annoying customers, andanother is about a strange man whopersuades people to pay to see himdrown. He really isnt supposed to, but heends up drowning anyway. Over all, theplay was about a writer, and the sceneswere about his stories that he haswritten.On the other hand, The Life and Deathof Larry Benson brought a more dramaticfeel to the stage. The son of a family wasthought to have been killed at war.However, three years later he returns, orLauren DemmingDuring a dramatic scene, Grace Wilkey, played by senior Lynn Hazeltine,is in shock after a long awaited kiss from Larry Benson, played bysenior Nathan Wrigley. They were directed by Kristin Demming in TheDeath and Life of Larry Benson. Lauren DemmingLauren DemmingComforting each other, senior Brenton McQueary andjunior Nicole Bruce perform in The Death and Life ofLarry Benson. The two played Frieda and Sam Benson.at least they think he does. The manclaiming to be their son is in actualitysomeone else.All the directors seemed to considerthe experience a positive one.Pearce said, The One Acts were great.We didnt have as much publicity [asother events], but that didnt stop thecrowds.
