Scott SchomackerThis lifeless silenceBen CampbellLook away endless sands, look to the West.Your true outlines just now formingFrom the liquid shape of molten clayHere in the numbing cool of your springless nights.I might sleep on dreams without hope,A bitter respite from the scorching day.Your arid beauty fixes me,Leaves me lost in distant focus.I could not find the gleam of whitened boneOn your sanded floor.Your gaping wounds of accidental rockAnd warts of weathered woodCut me, yet leave no mark; You have no solid arms to hold me.Tomorrow I will rise up with the sunAnd follow it to the WestTheir lofty caps above the solid wallMay catch the sunAnd let me know that I am soon to leaveThis lifeless silence.Martha GriggsIts hard to believe its the end of the year,To think that it went so fast,Few people will leave without shedding a tear,As they think of moments past. The thrill of a victory football game,The sorrow of missing a pass,The pleasure of sharing all the fameIn being the senior class. The excitement of being voted queen,The pride in getting all As,These are only part of the scenesWell remember all through our days. When people become uptight, or emotionally uplet, they try to find an escape. They need to find a way toget the problem out of their system. Some people goout and drive a car as fast as they can, or they go outand take their aggression out on an innocent person.Personally, I prefer a peaceful means of escape. Sailing.I have been sailing for about 16 years of my life. From the time my parents took me out when I was ababy, to the time I learned to master the controlsmyself, to the present, I have loved sailing. For onething sailing is very peaceful. The only sounds onewould hear would be the wind blowing through the sailsand the water lapping against the hull. Sailing is non-polluting; therefore, it doesnt alter the environment.Tom DeckardSailingDoug KinzerBut mostly, sailing lets you be at peace with yourself. When y/bu go out alone, and take the power of natureinto ydur hands, you feel a sense of pride in knowingthat you arent fighting nature. You use the force of thewind and make the sailing machine go. And you cansail for hours, days, weeks, even years; and youll neverrun out of fuel. There is always wind, and you can sailforever. After sailing for a time, I have found I have forgottenthe problem which was bothering me. Or at least, itdoesnt seem to be much of a problem anymore. Mymind is still out on the lake. I still feel as though I amsailing and find that I feel mdre at ease than I ever didbefore.25 |
