If thetrail failed to impress thehikers with its steepascents, they found waysto amuse themselves.We would stopevery five minutes to practice throwingknives at any tree that was wider thanmy waist, junior Aaron Zull said. Wewere all pretty rotten at it.The group proved more efficient atridding the forest of its dead standing[I was] clawingmy way up the hilltryingdesperately notto end up in aball at the bottomof my tent.junior Aaron Zulltrees. Ben Maidi and I went bushwhacking, carrying 45 pounds on ourbacks, senior Jordan Owens said.Eventually, everyone emerged fromthe trees and awaited the bus.
