I am aL sandwich artist atwhat seems to be the-^ busiest Subwaq in4 B l o o m i n g t o n ,considering all the new MarcieFry ^ development andbusiness evolving on that side of town.Working at Subwaq is not mq idea of a perfect job,bq far, but I reallq do not think it is all that bad.Nights (like after school) are usuallq (not alwaqs)fairlq slow, giving us time in between rushes to doabsolutelq nothing. Our manager is a goof ball too!She talks all the time. Luckilq though, I do not workwith her all that often. Mq other co-workers arereallq cool.senior Ipra pei^ir^toQIm Cameron Thibos,I forgot to getmv picture taken.earning the responsibility of the workplace. Beingtested for honesty. Being rewarded for exhibitingadmirable qualities. For many students, jobs were not only a way toearn money, but also a source of life lessons.Senior Mark Clarkes job at Ponderosa SteakHouse taught him the value of having a job as a teenager. With my job, I am able to buy clothes, have acar and do things with my friends. A lot of kids thinkthings are handed to you, but you have to work hardin order to get what you want, he said.Much like Clarkes job, senior SarahPickels job helped her prepare for futurejobs. Having a job now has helped merealize how much responsibility adults haveto have. Im ready for the future, she said.In addition to life lessons, many students hadmemorable experiences on the job. This guy came into Jiffy Treat and said that therewerent enough honest people in the world. He kepttesting us-giving us too much money and trying topay twice-and he tipped us a dollar every time wedid something honest, junior Erin Combs said.Similar to Combs, Clarke experienced customerswho were willing to exchange money for anhonorable deed. My first day, I was trying hard tobe especially friendly while waiting on an elderlycouple. They said that they were impressed by mypoliteness, and they tipped me $15, Clarke said.Though some viewed jobs as only money-makers,others realized they had gained valuable experiencesand memories by working. by /T\elissa /T\eQary16 GOTHIC •reflections |
