The summer of 1988 there was adrought, and they had restrictions on when to water the grass. So I wentin at 2:00 in the morning to water the grass. Once I got to stand on theGoverners desk when we were moving something. Of course he wasntthere.I worked on the Elkhart Truth and IDS (Indiana Daily Student). Mostof the time I worked on the social desk and wrote about a lot ofweddings. I had to call the funeral homes everyday and write theobituaries. Its fun because you get to know more about yourcommunity. If s a lot like being a detective. One time [when I was a lawyer] I walked across the street and lost a$40,000 check of my clients. I thought I had put it in my coat pocket, andit fell right through onto the street.I was a guidance counselor for the army in Germany. Ive never felt so outof place in a job. There were colonels whod lead men into battle cominginto the office to ask a 22 year-old for advice on what college classes totake. My secretary was an old Nazi. She used to regale me with storiesabout being a Hitler youth.I was a college student and worked in a high school cafeteria for about adollar an hour. I handed out glazed doughnuts, and now I cant stand thesight of them.■■ m m mm mm m ^ ■ a mmm ^ ^% ^ !«■■ ■ mm | | p^■ rib rlurl I WpI 1 lPlllt>Can you tall which schedule thase teachers prefer?By Pete Hall<L« Mrs. Beth Smith, foreignlanguageJd% Mr. Dave Blair, scienceO* Mr. Keith Clark, fine arts4fc Mrs. Karen Hunsicker, foreign language3« Mrs. Sharon Welch,mathematics<3.b.d.e.a s o f e •£ p 3 q XA 3x5, because it gives kids the opportunity to take classes in the electiveareas. Plus, it solves the scheduling problems that we seem to have. Goingback to traditional would be the worst mistakeAs a teacher, I prefer the traditional schedule since I feel foreign languagestudents benefit from the full-year experience. As a parent, I prefer thehybrid since classes such as choir, band, art and drama suffer intraditional. Obviously, I will benefit either way, or lose, depending onhow you look at it.I like the hybrid; some courses are better for short periods, others for long.If s a time factor. Advanced foreign language is a good class for block, while regular foreign language is better in traditional.I dont like hybrid, and I dont like block, so I suppose I prefer traditionalscheduling. However, the school day needs to be extended to make time forfine arts along with the core classes.I would probably have to choose traditional, because my math classesbenefit from daily practice on smaller portions of work rather than biggerSome classes may benefit from block classes but not math.Jobs/Schedulesone & allFaculty Matching |
