Description: EYES IN DIKUISEStudents cheat to make up for lazy study habitsIts the morningof a big test forsophomore Barbie*and junior Cedric*.However, thenormal anxietythat worries moststudents beforetests is not there.Since they wrotethe information ontheir hands andlegs, their onlyworry is that theink might smudge off. Some students felt the need tocheat in class because they didntpractice good study habits.I cheat because I am not agood studier, so it is easier towrite the info on my hand,Barbie said.Students also cheated becausethey didnt think the teacherspresented the information well. When you get certain teacherswho just do not teach, the onlything you can do to get a goodgrade is cheat, Kyle* said.Kyle said he and a friend haveused a system of taps and stompsto communicate with each otherduring a test. If Kyle didnt knowthe answer to number 12, hetapped his desk once with hispencil, waited a while, and thentapped it twice. This indicated tohis friend that he needed theanswer to number 12. The answerwas C, so Kyles friend stompedhis foot three times because C wasthe third choice on the list.Kyle didnt think teacherswould ever break the code of theirsystem: I feel I am pretty good athiding it.Other students were not aslucky as Kyle. Mr. Criss Beyers, physical education, caught manystudents cheating.I cheat becauseI dont knowthe stuff, and Iam too lazy. Iput off actualstudying, but Idont feel anyguilt when Icheat.junior Cedric*by Chris CarterOnce a kidwrote thevocabulary wordsand the meaningson his deskbecause they werehaving avocabulary test. When he handedthe test in, he didnot erase theanswers on hisdesk. I saw theanswers on hisdesk and gave him a zero, Beyerssaid. Some students thoughtcheating would help them get abetter grade, but when caught anautomatic zero was often theconsequence. The time I got caught was inbiology last year. I had my notesunder my test since I sat in theback. And my teacher was walkingaround, and he saw it, and I got anF. I was crying, Barbie said. Some students thought that itwouldnt bother them at all if theygot caught.I wouldnt feel any guilt. Itwould be annoying if I got caught, but I could live with it, Cedricsaid. No matter why studentscheated, how they cheated or howthey felt when they cheated, teachers felt it was never justified. My advice to students whofeel they have to cheat is to tryputting a little time in. I think thatin any class, if you put time andeffort in, you can succeed, Beyerssaid.Students might take Beyersadvice, although some will stillwrite the information on their leginstead of putting it into theirbrain.* names have been changedSenior StaceyMartlndale and juniorLindsey Kerr solderduring stained glass.Soldering helped keepthe glass together.Talking with Mrs. JoCease, foreign language, sophomore Jana Teaguereceives help in Spanishclass.
