Ed Morgan, Tyler Frank and Megan Thibos and juniorElly Wingard. respresentatives of fall sports teams, show off theirdance moves during the pep rally the student body attended in thepurple gym from 2-2:30 p.m. The pep rally consisted of the annualPie in the Face contest, in which senior Heather Pedro won thehonor of smashing a pie into the face of Mrs. Susan McGlasson,social studies.It was kind of weird because I almost didnt come to the peprally because I have exploratory teaching, and I was just going togo to that, and skip the pep rally. But I thought they might drawmy name to throw the pie. so I went, Pedro said. It was also weirdto throw the pie at her because [she] Is my third period teacher.The MCs. seniors Laura Blackwell. Jackie DuPrat and NaomiForss introduced representatives of fall sports teams and courtmembers. Student Council gave gift certificates to students whohad participated during every day of spirit week. They alsoannounced the banner decorating contest winners, who receiveda free breakfast. The winners were Environmental Club, Soundsof South and the girls basketball team.AVERY THATCH IJ> CtllOT Mariesha Griffin and freshman Keith Smith get downat the homecoming dance. Sponsored by Student Council thedance lasted from 8-11 p.m. in the white gym. Satin and sequinsmixed with perfumed bodies as students danced and moshed.Senior Jeff Jones sported the homecoming kings crown anddanced with the queen, Stephanie Crane.Everybody was pumped up to go, and the atmosphere wasjazzed. People who went looked really nice all dressed up, and thedecorations topped it off, junior Jon McDonald said.Homecoming week ended with the sound of Mardi Gras beadsbreaking on the floor, and a flow of satin sweeping out the door.AVERYTHATCHERUMTITIQthe football game, sophomores Chad Schwartzkopf, Giff Reedand Adam Strauser show off their school spirit by doing push-ups for everypoint scored. The last day of spirit week also commemorated the anticipatedgame against rival Martinsville. Eager fans placed their blankets on the seatsto reserve them ahead of time, as early as 8 a.m. Students, teachers, parentsand loyal fans crowded the stands to cheer the football team to a 41 -7 victory.At halftime all court members and their escorts walked across the field and1997 homecoming queen Daphne Houze crowned senior Stephanie Cranehomecoming queen.The game was fun, but it was really cold.
