Hehas just heard the last bell he will hear for two whole weeks. Hewatches as the students scurry to their lockers and out the door.He cannot wait to get home and let Christmas break begin.Its good to have a holiday because school can be verystressful. Its nice to have a time when you can get up at noon anddo whatever you want, Mitchner said.Holidays were not only a great way to get a break from school,but they were also seen as a time for family togetherness.Thanksgiving is the one time of year when I get to see myfamily. Its like a big reunion, sophomore Kelsey Lowe said.Junior Jake Bruner felt the same family bond around Christmastime. Every Christmas the whole family gets together and we gooutside and have snowball fights, he said.Thanksgiving and Christmas were not the only holidays thatbrought about family unity. Every Fourth of July, all of my familyand I get together and have a bar-b-que, and then we go out andspend the evening watching the fireworks. I dont know what Iddo if we didnt have that, Mitchner said.The reasons students enjoyed the holidays were as unique asthe celebrations themselves, whether they were a break fromschool and homework, time with family and friends or just theway they made people feel.Holidays bring out emotions and allow people to expressthemselves in different ways, said Mitchner.Charlotte SchroederJunior Laura Buekner andfriends talk downtown afterwatching the lightingceremony on the square.Lauren Demmingftovicteuyi^
