**%,....fightinboredomBy: Pete Hall and Andrew RemakAs the final bell rang on June l, 2000, it signaled the end of aschool year and the beginning of a summer full of freedom andentertainment for students.While some students took the summer to relax, others spenttheir three-month vacations in such activities as going on trips,acting as a counselor at a childrens camp, visiting local hot spots,and hanging out with friends. Many also used the summer as anopportunity to participate in church-related activities such asweekend retreats and charity work.Junior Randi Cline participated in a church related activitythis summer. My church group helped fight poverty in Mexicoby building houses for the poor. It really made me appreciatewhat I have here in the United States, and it kept me busy thewhole week, Cline said.Some students found adventure while traveling. We weredriving around downtown Austin, Texas, and we saw the guy onRipleys Believe or Not with the puzzle all over his body with thehorns, he lives in Austin, sophomore Chris Moore said.Other students who stayed in Bloomington found excitementright at home. Junior Duncan Williams got his drivers license andbought a red 1997 Pontiac Sunfire. It was cool that I got a nicecar that goes fast instead of a piece of junk, Williams said.A majority of students just took the time off to relax.Sophomore Jan Guess spent his time hanging out with his friends.I didnt really do anything particularly exciting, except hangout at my house and at my friends houses, Guess said.Although some students dreaded coming back to school afterthe break, everyone returned with many memories from the threemonths of summer.At a Christian summer camp,junior Kelsey Blake jumpsonto The Blob.
